Photo-shoot - Miss Georgiou

Photo-shoot

Introduction
The reason for my photo shoot is because it will mean I will be able to include my own pictures on my magazine advert and digipak. I have taken pictures in various locations which will allow me to have a wide range of photos and will mean I don't have to include the same photos repeatedly. Having a wide range of photos means I can choose what ones I like the most, and what ones I feel work best on each slide to my digipak.  Having my own photo's for my magazine advert and digipak means they would have been taken by myself and I will be the only person using them.

Main
The photo's above are a sample of the pictures i took in my photo shoot. The first 3 images are taken in the location of London, and where taken when me and my artist Amy travelled to London to record scenes for the music video. The music video includes similar images/recordings, showing a connection between the images i have used in my digipak to the actual music video itself. This is a positive thing, as it means the audience can understand the meaning easily and create a relationship with the artist as they can connect to the images they see in the album and the music video included from the song Hometown Glory. The first three images were taken specifically at Embankment in London. The first image of my artist Amy laughing leaning over the bridge is the back cover to my digipak, the second image is my front cover to my digipak. I have chosen these two as they show resemblance to each other as they were taken in the same place, although contrast two different emotions, one happy and one sad, both these images on my digipak will be in a black and white filter. The fourth image is a picture taken of Amy on the performance stage. This was taken when we was filming the performance element to our music video, and i felt this image related to me my music video a lot. This image shows my artist to be looking down singing, this shows her passion towards music and how much she enjoys it. The fifth picture shows Amy to be looking down away from the camera. This picture was taken at Amy's house, along with many other pictures that we took at the time. This is the picture i have included on my magazine advert.

I feel that all of the pictures i have taken for my photo-shoot are conventional in there own way. The pictures taken in London are conventional as they show a urban lifestyle and London represents the song Hometown Glory within the album itself. Also Amy is wearing black, which represents the depressing and sad mood. I made sure that Amy is wearing black in all of her photo shoot photo's as its a connotation of her mood, as well as showing it through her facial expressions. All of my photo's apart from one show Amy looking sad, and away from the camera not making eye contact with the audience, showing she does not want to share her emotions and feelings and wants her audience to try ad figure out how she is feeling. The picture that i have taken of Amy laughing shows her looking our over the river in London, this shows her reflecting over her past thinking about the good times she has with her family and friends.

I feel that i have taken all my photo's too a high standard and they represent my artist in different ways through the connotations of colours and emotions. I like my first picture because the background is blurred and my artist isn't. This was the way I took the photo, i focused the camera on Amy purposely so she would stand out and the background wouldn't. This is purposely showing of the artist as being happy as she is reflecting on her life looking out past London. I like the blurred background as you can see commuters walking past, representing London as a busy and hectic place. My second picture is very similar, although this time Amy is seen through a close-up, showing her facial expressions and emotions of sadness. This was taken in the same location as the previous picture. The third picture of Amy standing in front of tower bridge is also taken in a similar location. I feel one thing good about this picture is the background and the way the artist is looking. The background strongly shows London, as you can see the river and tower bridge. The background is a true representation to the album and the song Hometown Glory. I feel that the angle of this image is at a low angle, and capture's Amy looking over the river from a point below, which represents her feelings as sad and emotional as she is being captured from a shot beneath her. I think one good thing good about the fourth picture is the dark edges to the image. This image shows Amy on stage performing, the red curtains fall behind, although the edges to the picture gradually get darker due to the lighting, and i feel this works well as now this does not have to be edited in, and natural.

I feel that each of my pictures will create a relationship with my artist in different ways. For example, picture two, the close up of Amy in London. The audience will be abel to create a relationship with the artist due to the fact that she is not looking at her audience, and looking away hiding her emotions from the camera, so the audience have to look deeper into what she is feeling and the reasons why. Picture five also holds the same reason. Amy is looking down away from the camera, which means she wants her audience to try and understand what she is feeling, and why she is feeling so down, her looking down also represents her as feeling low and depressed. None of my five pictures i took within my photo-shoot show my artist Amy too be looking at the camera. I done this purposely to show to the audience my artist wants the audience to listen to her music/buy her album to know exactly how she is feeling as her emotions are sung through the lyrics of the songs, and shown through the pictures within the digipak and the magazine advert.
The first image shows Amy looking over the bridge smiling. This picture reflects on the music video and shows a great connection as the artist is doing something very similar in it. The connection between the two shows the audience will easily recognise the photo shoot and music video together. The fact that the artist is also looking away from the camera represents a convention of the soul genre, looking away to hide her emotions from the target audience. This is the same with all the images that I have used, showing the artist looking away from the audience to hide her emotions. The photo shoot photos link to the soul genre and my ancillaries as they all portray the same conventions for the target audience to see.

Conclusion
When taking pictures for my photo-shoot i found that it was easier in certain locations than others. I felt that i took each picture to a high standard, focusing on certain aspects of each image and learning how to focus on Amy herself. I found i struggled with the lighting within each picture, as some locations had darker lighting than i expected, and found it hard to see Amy in her full potential. These pictures give my artist a representation of being sad, lonely and emotional. Each picture of her looking down or away represents these feelings, and also the connotations of the colours i have included which is mainly black, represent the darker feelings of her emotions. Although they represent her as this, they also show her as strong, as the fourth picture shows her performing on stage, and this portraying determination. This is the reason i took the particularly image, as it shows Amy from a long shot, and the audience can see her full emotion to the song.

Individual magazine advert analysis - Miss Georgiou

Individual magazine advert analysis

Introduction
The reason why I have created an individual magazine advert is to promote my artist's song and album release. The magazine advert will promote the album, which the song is included on, and this song will be from the music video that we are creating. It will hold similar conventions to the music video itself so the audience can relate to both. This magazine advert will be a method of promotion and will help to reach a wider audience than her own target audience. A magazine advert helps show of the artist, and shows conventions and surprises of what is going to be held within the album itself.
Main

Within my magazine advert i have decided to use certain elements that will make my advert appeal to a wide audience, and promote my artist effectively. Firstly, the colours i have used are conventional my genre, soul. I have included the colours black, white and red, these are the main featured colours in my music video also. This running theme of the colours means the audience can relate to the audience easily, and understand the clear connection between the two. The colour red in the title, as well as the colour on her lips shows passion, love and also anger. This colour helps portray her emotions, and how she has strong emotions on missing her hometown, in connection with the title. The red reflects her love towards her family and friends, and how she misses them, and remembers her happy past. The black reflects on the darker time in her life and her depressed and sad emotions. This is shown through the black and white filter of the background, and the reviewers logo which is black with an outline or white. The black and white filter use in the background, shows her past behind her, and now she expresses sad and depressive emotions, this is portrayed through the connotations of the colours and Amy looking down. The conventions of the soul genre, include features of the artist being down because of family or a heartbreak. Dark and mysterious colours are conventionally used to portray the artist's feelings, and want the audience to create a relationship with the audience easily. Using conventions from the soul genre means the audience can quickly recognise that this is a soul album being promoted, and will be instant attracted by the conventions used, as they stand out to the audience, and means its easily attracted to people. The images i have included involve a picture of my artist, looking down away from her audience. The purpose of my artist looking down away from her audience, means she's hiding her emotions and showing a mysterious side of her personality. She wants her audience to listen to the album, so they can work out how she is feeling and why she is feeling like this. This helps the artist reach a wider audience as people will stop and read the magazine article, and think to buy the album promoted, people stop and think in the street about how this album may make them feel if they was to buy It and listen. The other image I have included is behind the artist, and shows big ben in London. The London picture, represents the song Hometown glory included on the album. Big Ben is the main attraction of London, and Amy's song hometown glory shows to the audience her now living in London, but missing her hometown where she used to live. The picture of Big Ben also being in black and white helps reflect her emotions of sadness to the audience and how her life now is dark and not a happy time/place. The picture of big ben helps reflect the song Hometown Glory and the context involving London, showing a clear connection between the two, meaning a clear understanding for the audience. The layout/design that I have chosen to use on my magazine advert shows a clear structure to it actually being a magazine advert as the typography is bold, and everything matches. The layout shows my images standing out at the top of my advert, and the writing overlapping at the bottom, showing the debut album and the name as well as added extras. The typography I have included shows the title of the album, the representation and the release date. The representation of the album states this is her debut album, and the layout shows the name of the album in larger font underneath. The colour of the debut album sentence is white, and in a simple font that stands out from the darker background. Whereas, the "Amy 18" title includes two different sentences which I have put together to create an effect from the white and red colours. The "A" and "18" are the colour red, with the background of white, and vis-versa with the other letters in the name. These two colours work well together on my magazine advert as they represent the innocence to my artist through the white and the passion through red, and in contrast they show Amy as a artist. The colour red also links in with London, which is also shown in the background. I have chosen to use a simple font for my typography as it stands out and is easy to read from a magazine point of view, if the text was to be smaller or more complicated it might put of people flicking past the page of the magazine, whereas using a simple font means anyone can understand it, and it being quick and easy to read. The logo I have chosen to include shows the iTunes logo, and 5 stars underneath to represent a rating from this company. This logo had its own font so i couldn't change it, although it does stand out from the background as I have added a white border to show contrast from the black colour that it is written in. The white stars underneath connect to the writing that is underneath them, as they are the same colour white and represent her innocence as she is looking down at them in the picture on the advert. The type of language I have used on my magazine advert is very minimal, as I have chosen to use simple language so I can aim for a wider audience. I haven't included any complicated vocabulary in my language, and kept it simple by simple stating the name of the album, the release date and that it's a debut album being released. Only using a small amount of language on a magazine advert means the audience have more reason to focus on just the artist herself, as well as not needing a lot of information in writing as they can see from the connotations used, and buy the album to see how good it is.
I used photoshop to create my magazine advert, although I had a few strengths and weaknesses on this programme. My strengths were shown through finding pictures of my own, and on the internet and adding them in by dragging and dropping from my documents. This was a simple task, as I then had to hold shift whilst dragging picture to the size I wanted, so the picture did not stretch or go fizzy once entering. Using photoshop helped me to create high standard ancillaries which allow the audience to see. One weakness I found was using the magic wand tool. The magic wand tool allows you to select certain images on the page. This tool helped me to either cut out the background or the main image, and edit either one. I used this tool a lot meaning I could change images when I wanted to, being able to reach a wider audience rather than my target audience. Using this tool meant I could delete certain aspects or put them into a new layer. I had to look for instructions on the internet and ask my peers how to use this tool properly, as I found that I would highlight more than one thing at a time and not know how to get the original copy back. After several attempts I found that I could use this tool properly, and managed to use it for both images shown on my magazine advert. I enjoyed using photoshop for my magazine advert as it allowed me to create the advert I wanted and too a high standard. Photoshop allowed me too use as many layers, images and editing effects that I wanted to create my magazine advert. The fonts I decided to use were times new roman, as they created a simple effect and also being easy to read. The double up of the times new roman font shows a clear picture of what it says, conventionally showing two different colours reflecting on the soul genre and the reoccurring colours on the magazine advert, music video and digipak meaning its easy to recognise. The time new roman font is used on most magazine adverts as it allows any audience to be able to read it.
Conclusion
I feel that my magazine advert does conform with my genre of soul. I have included conventional colours from the soul genre such as red, white and black, which are reoccurring themes throughout my whole song of Hometown Glory and the album. All of these colours work well to create the image of my artist being innocent, sad and angry. I have used a conventional layout to my advert, which shows simplicity and shows my artist fully as I have positioned my typography at the bottom of the page, although still easy to notice. My target audience is 16-30 year olds, and I feel that my magazine advert does appeal to that age, as well as a wider one too. Although I have included conventions of the soul genre which means it will be recognised for that genre easily, it will also appeal to a wider audience too as I haven't included any bright colours or images that will put off the audience, and make them turn the page of the magazine easily. I feel that using photo-shop has helped me reach my full potential to creating my magazine advert.

Risk Assessment - Miss Miller

Risk Assessment

Introduction
The purpose of a risk assessment is to try and prevent any risks taking place in the filming process for our music video. As our music video involves being in and outside, it means more risks are more likely to take place. Because of this, we have thought about what risks are most likely to happen, and wrote them down, and thought as a group what we could do to prevent them, to try and help hurting ourselves as well as the equipment we are using. Considering these risks before hand means we are more prepared as a group, and can understand the consequences together, making sure each and every one of us understands. As we have done this before filming, and not left it until later on, this means we have been able to all put our ideas forward, and express our concerns, as some of the locations we are using have a higher crime rate than others, because of this we have created a table to show the risks, and how they will be prevented, who can be involved and back-up plans, this gives us plenty of options.
Conclusion
Our risk assessment was a positive feature to us as a group when filming our music video. It allowed us to be very prepared for any risks that could have taken place, and carry any extra necessary equipment that could help us resolve these problems. Each of the six risk's allowed me to see a wider view on the bad things that can occur when filming such a simple scene. For example, the risk of Amy my artist tripping over loose wires on the performance stage. This was not thought about before hand and me creating this table has allowed me to think deeper into this. For this specific risk, me and my group taped down the loose wires, to prevent anyone on stage slipping or falling over, seeing as the stage is raised above the ground anyone could easily fall down and off. This specific risk allowed me to see how important it is to plan ahead, and this also allowed the least amount of time to be wasted, as we was prepared with equipment we needed. We didn't encounter any major risks whilst filming, apart from one which we found that London was very busy, and commuters and the public were rushing past the camera very quickly. This meant the camera and tripod were un-stable and some times, and taking care of it with more consideration was needed, because of this we tried to stay out of the way as much as possible, but this was hard at times when trying to achieve the camera shots that we wanted. Although this risk was encountered, we did manage to produce the camera shots that we wanted to a high standard. Each member of my group took into consideration throughout the whole filming process of the risks that could occur, meaning we was all prepared.  I understand that risks can occur at any time, so we had to be extra vidulante and work as a team to stop any others occurring. We didn't find any more risks whilst filming our music video, and only fund the ones that we had already prepared for and planned, so this was a positive for our group and allowed us to be prepared for these and no accidents were caused.

Filming schedule - Miss Miller

Filming Schedule

Introduction
My filming schedule was important as it helps me and my group to plan out when we are to to film, and what elements we are going to include. Our filming schedule was planned as a group, and we decided to create a table with 9 different rows to show different headings. The different headings are; shot, date and time, location, content/action, shot type and duration, costume/hair&make-up, iconography, personnel and equipment. These 9 different titles helps us look at things individually and plan out what things are going to be inclded for each. We had 5 different shots for our locations, where we would be showing many different shots from these locations at some different times, but all found as one instead of naming individually. An example for our first shot explained is: The first location is the stage within the school and the backstage. The date and time for this location is the 9th of the 11th 15. This is the time that we filmed and where it took place. This location was for the performance style of the music video, and we as a group would capture various shots of Amy our artist on stage, singing the song Hometown Glory. The various shots would consist of Amy picking up the microphone entering the stage, singing parts of the song, and leaving the stage and putting the microphone back In its place. All of these shots would take time as we would have to place the camera in the right position, and all be happy with the final shots. Within this stage performance, we would see our artist Amy wearing a black dress, black high heels, and curly hair which all connect to the soul genre. Each shot consists of the same explanation so we have an idea of what to take and use when filming specific shots. Having a filming schedule meant we could plan our time wisely and no time was wasted, using our time efficiently, also means we have a structure to our planning, so there would be no rushing around nearer to the end of our deadline.
Conclusion
My filming schedule has allowed me and my group to plan out specifically what we are going to include within each camera shot, and what we will need to include, this table gave us a clear structure and understanding. We did follow this filming schedule, and stuck to each of the five shots that we planned on using. Seeing as we had planned our filming schedule before hand, this enabled us to film in a formal order, and not fall behind, this also meant it was less time consuming for us as a group and could plan out where and what times we was filming together. For some of the locations we chose to film in, we had to book times to ensure we could film at that time and place. For example the main hall within our school where we would film Amy our artist performing on stage for the performance element of the music video. Also the London scenes, we had to plan as a group when we was all free, and could arrange a time around school and work, this was the same as the Theydon Bois scene. Although London is a journey away on the train, so ensuring we planned out when we would film before would stop time wasting. The music room within the school was free the majority of the time, so me and my group went when we all had a free period at school and filmed then, ensuring we all had input, although some of the filming we completed was only by specific group members, as others couldn't work around the schedule. Due to us planning ahead and creating a filming schedule, it meant we had extra time once filming was all completed, and meant we could re analyse the camera shots we had collected and see if any filming again was necessary to ensure a high standard. If some people could not make the filming schedule that we had planned, then we would either work around that person, depending on who it was and if they was in the scenes on that day. If they was scheduled to be in the scene, then me and the rest of my group would change our arrangements and film another scene to the music video, or simply change the day, so the whole group could make it and film together.
I didn't follow the filming schedule that i created, as times were changed regularly as some of my group couldn't make the times arranged. The parts that were followed by my group and myself which included the stage scenes and the piano scenes. The piano performance was filmed on the 9th of November and was filmed by two members of my group, as the other two were in lessons at that time of the day. This being filmed at the time we arranged meant we had a time slot for this booked room, and knew what shots we were going to film. The shots that were taken in this scene were Amy playing the piano, showing close-ups, long-shots, points of view and panning shots. These were all filmed to a high standard and nearly every shot was included in our music video for the performance style. Moreover, the performance on the stage was filmed on the 13th of November, and all of our group participated in this scene. The shots that were taken in this scene included long shots of amy singing on the stage, panning from the floor upwards up to Amy's face showing her expression on her ace and meaning into the song. The other two scenes of London and Theydon Bois were not filmed at the times and dates that we expected, as times needed to be changed due to group embers not being able to make the times expected. Because of this we filmed on the 2nd of December instead, this included me and Amy filming London and all of our group filming in Theydon Bois, but all the shots we planned to use were included.
A filming schedule is important as it allows planning before hand and no time wasting, and allowed us to plan the shots we was going to include.

Planning individual DigiPak - Miss Georgiou

Planning individual DigiPak

Introduction
There are many purposes of a digipak and these include to promote an album, to list the content of an album, to make the CD eye-catching, to use art and images to express a message, to tell us something about the artist and musician and the music behind it, to attract a wider audience as well-as the artists own and to finally store additional promotional materials which includes booklets and posters. Digipaks consist of a gatefold paperboard or cardboard outer binding, with one or more plastic trays for the CD, which allows fold dups to be in the plastic trays and see easily by the audience when opened.Within a Jewel CD case there is a plastic case that means the paper inside is protected and will last longer, which is an advantage for the audience as they can keep the CD for a long time and nothing will be damaged. Most of the detail is solely on the front and the back, meaning that it is more likely to grab peoples attention and make them want to buy the album, which is a technique of promotion as what the audience see is what they are going to get. A jewel case will often contain lyrics of the sings which are included, so the people who buy it will be able to learn the songs and relate to the artist more, making it easier for the artist and the audience to create a relationship. I will be creating a digipak that includes conventional colours to the genre and reoccurring colours that are represented throughout the digipak as well as the actual music video and the colours that the artists will be wearing. This will help the artist see the reoccurring themes running throughout helping the audience to see a clear message of what the artist is feeling, and this also being used in the digipak will help a relationship to be created between the audience and artist. My digipak creation is included in a picture above, which shows 6 different sides, including a front and back cover. I am going to try and make my own digipak to as near as possible as this.
Analysis
The first element i have chosen to analyse is the colours i have used specifically within my digipak. The main colours i have included is the colours, black and red. The reasons for including these colours throughout my whole digipak is because they contrast and reflect the expressions and emotions being sent out by the artist Amy. The red I have included shows on the A of the artists name Amy as well as the 18 in the cover of the album, the red bus on the CD cover and when my artist Amy addresses her audience by writing to 'you' in the colour red so it stands out and addresses her audience clearly and brightly. The red being used as a reoccurring theme shows Amy's emotions of love, passion, power and also anger. The anger represents when Amy is not in her hometown anymore and is angry and sad that she isn't happy in the place that she is living and wants to be around family and friends and be happy like she was in her past. The red buses shows a link with the lyrics of London and how this is where Amy is living and spending her time now. Within the song Hometown Glory, London is mentioned a lot and me including it in my CD cover shows a connection with Goodwin's theory of his point about the lyrics and visuals showing a clear link. This is a good thing, as it now means Amy's audience can relate to the colours red being used and understand the emotions and expressions being sent out to the audience and know what they mean, making them relatable. In addition, the colour black is also included frequently within my digipak. The colour black is used within every one of my 6 slide digipak which shows to the audience its an important colour throughout the music video. The colour black in my digipak represents the connotations of sadness, hidden meanings, elegance, power and grief. This colour also helps to portray Amy's dark thoughts and meanings being sent out to her audience. I have used this colour on the message to the audience, as it stands out and is clear and easy to read, but also shows a hidden meaning in the words she is saying as she is portraying darkness and sadness behind her words. Furthermore, the letters "my" of the name Amy, as is shows a contrast to the colour red that is used on the A and 18, as it separates two different meanings to the audience about the song Hometown Glory is about sadness and love, and these two colours together show this. Amy is also wearing black in the separate picture on her own on the stage. The black dress and black heels in the stage picture shows her as being emotional and expressing bad and sad emotions through the lyrics of this song. Most of the detail on jewel Cd cases is mainly on the front and back whereas in my digipak the detail lays not only on the front and back but inside as well, including pictures, and personal messages.

The conventions of the soul genre I have included within my digipak is the images I have included, which includes a close-up of my artist on the front cover. Close-ups are conventional to the soul genre as it means the artist can connect and portray their emotions easily to the audience through facial expressions and emotions. This is why I have included a close up on my front cover of my digipak as it means my audience can create a relationship with the artist and can understand the way she is feeling and the meanings within each song that has been included on the album. The audience will also be able to see the expression being shown from the artists face, and this will represent her past emotion. Close-ups are used all the time within the soul genre, including male and female artists. Another convention of the genre that I have applied within my digipak is the colours black and red. The colour red shows my artists power and authority within her songs and how she is a strong and independent woman. The colour black in contrast with this shows the darker meanings behind her thoughts and messages being sent out through the lyrics and images she is portraying through the digipak. The performance element to the digipak is shown through the picture of Amy on the stage singing, surrounded by black curtains and features, again the colour black is inflicted on this slide of the digipak. The performance element to my digipak is also a convention to the soul genre as in soul music videos we conventionally see the artist performing in a setting that is related to the song or a stage, just like what we are including in ours. The personal message from the artist to the audience is also very direct and is directed specifically at each reader. Soul songs conventionally are seen to be very personal and direct to the reader to help with the relationship that is going to be created between the two. This personal message helps with the audience grasping the concept of the artists feelings, and how this message means a lot to them and helping with the aid of promotion. Including conventions from the soul genre within my digipak helps the audience to recognise reoccurring themes from the genre, this helping a relationship to be created.

The images I have included within my digipak are all very important and each portray a different message to the audience. The first image I have included is the front cover, which shows my artist Amy to be looking downwards. The picture I have sketched is Amy holding a fur coat and looking downwards away from the camera. I have chosen an image of Amy looking downwards away from the camera as this shows an insecurity of the artist, hiding her emotions from the audience, this creating a relationship between the audience and the artist as they have to dig deeper into what the artist is feeling and the reasons why. This being on the front cover, helps the audience to see this image straight away and get the impression that this CD will portray many emotions about the artist and this will be heard through the tracks included. The image in the 6th slide of the digipak shows my artist Amy playing the piano. This is a picture taken from the music video, where Amy is seen to be playing the piano in the instrumental parts of the song. I have chosen to use this image due to the fact that is shows that this CD involves the piano in most of Amy's songs and shows that the artist is very talented as she plays the piano and sings and performs. The images I have chosen to include on the actual CD of Amy's digipak is the title of the CD and a red London bus. This links to the song of Hometown Glory as this song includes the theme of London and is frequently talked about in the song. The clear link between the two shows that the audience will know what the CD is about and what specific songs are included. This London bus also carries the running theme that I have included of the colour red. I feel that the images I have included within my digipak all hold a meaning that connects to the artist as well as the album, and the song Hometown Glory. All of these images when seen by the audience will help create a relationship from the audience to the artist as they can link to the song Hometown Glory.

The layout and design I have chosen to use for my digipak is including six different sides, and to lay them out in a simplistic way for the audience to understand. Although my first box shows the message to the audience, this is in the wrong place and is to be swopped with the image below of the artist and the album name which is the front cover to the digipak. The layout shows the front cover in the first box, the track list in the second box, the CD front in the third, the personal message to readers in the fourth, and two images I have chosen to include of my artist on the stage and her playing the piano in the fifth and sixth box. This layout is clear and easy to see by the audience, and all of these boxes hold all the necessary and important information to unfold by the audience within this digipak. I feel that my layout of the album name in the front cover is clear and bold and holds the themed colours that I have chosen to use which is black and red. The 'A' of my artist's name Amy is in red, which shows the power she holds and the importance within her name and how it should stand out to the audience brightly. Also the 18 is in red, which shows the importance to how it should stand out from the black, and is different from her other albums. Also carrying the running theme of Adele's albums where she used numbers after name in her last 3 running album's so I took inspiration from her. The layout I have chosen on my CD is simplistic, easy to recognise and easy to understand, which is good for my audience, meaning an easy target audience to catch. I feel I have chosen a simplistic layout not only for my target audience to understand but a wider audience that will enjoy the CD itself, as well as the digipak inside.

The typography I have chosen to include within my digipak is very simple and have included a similar font running throughout. On the front cover of the digipak shows the artists name and the number of the album. The font i have decided to use shows longer edges to the on the top and bottoms of each letter, showing the artist as creative and talented. This bold simplistic font means the audience can read and understand easily, without confusion. The language i have used is also very minimal, and i haven't elaborated on any text i have written. The most amount of text i have included is on the track list, which simply states a different point on each line of what the track is. The track list is underlined in red and written in the colour black. Again these two colours blend together to show different meanings and portray different emotions to the audience from the artist.

Finally, all of these points individually mean i can look closely at conventions for each and all the connotations of my points made. The colours i have used which is mainly black and red. The colour black can have may different connotations but the meanings within my digipak is mysterious, shows Amy's elegance and power over her audience and also fear, showing her fear of not being in her hometown anymore and her sad emotions of how she misses home and wants to be there. The digipak itself is based around the story line of my music video, and the features of the music video connect to the features i have included on my own digipak. My groups individual digipaks are very similar to my own, as we have also included similar features such as red and black. We have used similar images but we were able to use our own and choose what ones we wanted. The typography is very similar as we wanted to show the soul genre brightly through all of our digipaks.

Conclusion
Overall, this post has to help me elaborate on my ideas of what i have included in my digipak and what effect is creates on the audience. My digipak has helped me to prepare for using photoshop and final cut pro. i will be taking pictures when filming my music video to put in my final digipak, so they will have relation to the music video itself. I feel after planning my digipak i am now more aware of what to include in my digipak, and how certain pictures will work better and how some won't. I will use the technique of overlapping in my digipak to include different backgrounds and settings that will link to the music video e.g. London. The pictures that i will include will be taken at the time of the filming process so they are the same as the video. My editing on photoshop will allow me to add effects to my music video and filter to help to the effect and the emotions portrayed towards the audience.

Music Video Inspirations - Miss Miller

Music Video Inspirations

Introduction
It is important to take inspiration from other music videos so i can analyse and understand the specific things that are used to target an audience. Different skills are used in videos, and some i particularly like, which is why its important for me to choose five different videos that I feel include specific things that work well and explain the reasons why so i can gain a wider understanding. I feel that this post is going to help me gain wider knowledge on music videos other than the soul genre, as different genres also include features that i may want to use. I feel this analysis is really going to help me gain an understanding into what works within music videos depending on there genre, as within this post I am not just looking at the soul genre, but others too as they may hold conventions that I can also incorporate within the creation of my own music video.

Analysis
1)The first video i have chosen which i feel includes a feature that i find effective, inspirational and want to include in my own music video is Adele, Someone Like You.

The feature which i find inspirational within this music video is the editing feature of a black and white filter. This editing skill connects to the soul genre of this song, and helps portray the dull and depressing mood. The black and white filter is applied throughout the whole video and there is no time where there is no effect and the picture colour is normal. The reason for this black and white filter helps portray the emotion from Adele's face, we can see that she is upset, and the black helps portray the darkness in her emotion and thoughts. Her facial expressions aren't elaborated, and nothing stands out to the audience seeing as a filter is used. The black also helps portray the connotation of death, evil black and a mystery. The mystery connotation can be linked in as Adele doesn't give away any emotions of feelings, meaning the audience have to guess what she is feeling leaving it as a mystery to the way she feels. I feel that the black and white filter works effectively within this music video for Adele as well as the soul genre. I feel that i am going to use this editing skill within my music video creation is it helps portray emotion clearly and easily from the artist, especially within the soul genre. I feel i am going to use this within the narrative part of my music video when my artist looks back at her memories of her emotional past and when she was really happy, as it shows the past clearly to the audience with a clear difference to the performance element. I am going to include a black and white feature within my music video when Amy my artist is looking back at her memories of the good times with her friends. This will show her reflecting back on her life, and the good times she used too have. A black and white filter is conventional to the soul genre, as it can show the artist as depressed and in a low mood in life, and can reflect on the lyrics.

2)The second music video i have chosen which i feel includes features that i find inspirational is Marvin Gaye, by Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor.

The reason for choosing this song as one of my inspirations is that it holds the mise-en-scene feature of iconography that I find inspiring. The piano is used throughout the whole way of the song, which I found helped to add to the effect of the song. The piano starts of by being played by Charlie Puth, one of the artists of the song. He plays the piano and sings at the same time, and this also shows a great performance as he is playing for people in a high school dance. I feel that from the iconography used within this music video I am also going to include a piano within the creation of my own music video. My music video holds the genre of soul so the piano being played will help show the emotion and sad expression from my artist. I am going to also have my artist playing the piano herself as it helps to show the artists fame within the music industry. Although I am not going to include a brown piano within my music video but a black piano as it holds the conventions of mystery and darkness within the soul genre, and helps show the effect from the lyrics being sung over the piano keys. The black and white keys on the piano link together to show insecurity's and sad emotions from the artist. The piano within my music video will fall under the performance side rather than the narrative, and will only show the artist playing and singing to herself rather than an audience within the music video above, as it feel this is more conventional to the soul genre showing loneliness. I am going to include a piano in my own music video in the performance element, in a music room which will show Amy playing the piano in time with the song itself. The piano is played the whole way in the background of Adele's song so including it in the shots will show the performance element to her video. Having a musical instrument within a soul music video is conventional, as it holds features of the artist being professional and talented.

3) The third song I have chosen to include which I feel holds features and conventions that have inspired me within the creation of my own music video is Stay by Rihanna.

The reason for choosing this music video is because of the emotion that is portrayed through the artist as well as the frequent use of close-ups from cinematography. Close-ups of the artist Rihanna are used throughout nearly the whole music video as she sits in the bath throughout her performance. The narrative of this song shows Rihanna heartbroken about her previous love. The amount of close-ups used lets the audience gain an insight into what she is feeling, and how her emotions are very strong towards him. The close-ups also allow us to see the true emotions being shown from Rihanna and how they are fresh and new. Because of the significant amount of close-ups that are used, this means the audience can create a relationship between the artist easily as they can see and feel the emotions that she is expressing. This is what I want to create within my music video, a emotion that the audience can understand what is happening and see the raw emotions through the use of close-ups. Close-ups are very effective and are conventional to the soul genre, which is the genre of my song Hometown Glory by Adele. The audience of my music video will be able to understand the emotions being sent out as they will see the meaning of the song through the visuals as they will connect to the lyrics. The sad expression from Rihanna shows her vulnerability and how she is going through a hard time, this is a similar situation within my own music video, which is why I feel close-ups are going to create a good effect in my own music video and why this particular music video has inspired me. I am going to include close-ups throughout my whole music video, this will consist of within the performance style, when Amy is on stage performing the song, and a close-up will show her true expression and emotion into the depth of the song and lyrics. Close-ups within soul music videos are conventional to the soul genre as they mean the audience can understand the true meaning of what the artist is feeling, and why she is feeling like this, this works well in soul videos, and i will try to do the same in my own.

4) The fourth song I have found inspiring after analysing and watching is Paloma Faith - 30 minute love song. This song is from the genre of soul, and holds conventions that I feel work well and have inspired me to think about using in my own creation of a music video.

This music video has inspired me through the use of mise-en-scene. The make-up of Paloma shows her to be wearing red lipstick. The red lipstick portrays in a glamorous and beautiful way. She is wearing it throughout the whole music video as she sings and performs. The colour red also shows the connotation of passion, which links too the narrative of this song of her being in a love affair, conclusive to the name of the song. I feel that the red lipstick is an effective way to show the audience emotions you cant express, or to back up emotions. Because of this, I am going to include the feature of red lipstick in my own music video. I am going to show my artist wearing it throughout all the performance side and some of the narrative when she is more grown up. The red lipstick within my music video will help influence the past in my artist's life, and how she is unhappy now. Unlike this music video where the red lipstick represents passion, my red lipstick shows her professionalism, fame and as well as anger, about how upset she is now in her life, and wants things to just be like the past in her Hometown. The audience will be able to create a relationship easily as they will be able to see the purpose of the red lipstick on my artist and how this reflects her life now and how she is as a person. The red lipstick within the performance aspect will show her fame to her audience, and how she feels above everyone else when performing. I feel this music video has helped me to feel inspired and learn the meanings behind this use of mise-en-scene. This is going to be included throughout my whole music video, which will show Amy to be wearing quite pale make-up and red lipstick, apart from in the scenes where we will see her to be wearing a minimal amount of make-up to express her when she was younger, and enjoying herself with her friends.

5) The fifth music video inspiration I have taken is from the song Fix You by Coldplay. The reason for choosing this song is due to the location, from the micro-element; mise-en-scene.

This music video's location is set In the streets of London. From watching this music video, the setting has inspired me to include it in one of my five inspirations. The location of London shows to the audience an urban feel to their music, and this song has a slow beat. The music video shows the artist walking the streets of London from light to dark, as well as in comparison to a concert which flips in and out of the London shots. I feel that I am going to include the setting of London within the narrative style of my music video as it shows an urban feel to the music video, shows a crowded place, showing the artist to having confused and full emotions. The location of London also links to my lyrics, where my artist will sing about her previous time In her Hometown, but now lives her life in London, where she feels isolated and away from her family and friends. Filming the streets of London will help the audience to see what the artist feels and how she is living her life, and by going to London and filming shots within our group will mean a greater understanding for the audience. My artist will also be walking the streets of London, but within my music video I want to include more of what the artist see's rather than her herself, although this will be included. The shots of London will include sight seeing attractions such as the London eye that will be recognised easily by my target audience. I feel that from my analysis of this music video, it has helped me understand how important the setting is within a music video, and I feel London works well when the audience trying to understand the meaning behind the music video and I enjoyed Coldplay's video. This is going to be incorporated within my music video, as me and my group are going to travel to London, to film shots of Amy my artist waking the streets of London singing with surroundings around her. The location of London we think we are going to use is oxford street, waterloo or London bridge as these are the busiest places in London and have a mixture of tourists and commuters. To have such a hectic surrounding will be un-conventional to the soul genre, as we normally see calm settings to represent the mood.

I want my artist amy to be shown in the style of narrative and performance. These are both conventional from the soul genre, and have all been included in all of my 5 artist representations. My artist representation will show my artist Amy as insecure, sad and depressed. This will be shown through the dark clothing she is going to be wearing in every scene of the music video, as we are going to include five different scenes showing different locations and expressing different emotions of sadness.
Conclusion
My analysis of five different music video inspirations has helped me to look at what things are important to include within a music video, and how each create a relationship with the audience or not. It has helped me a lot to explore other genre's other than soul as I can see what other artists include within their music video's to make it popular and inspiring. I have taken one thing from each five of my music video's and explained them to I can understand what I have chosen and the reasons for my choices. I feel that each one of these analysis's has helped me to explore all the important things I am going to include within my own music video, and how I now know other artists have included these features to make them effective and noticeable. I am going to make sure I include each five of these features as they really inspired me and stood out when I watched each music video. this has helped with the production of my own music video as I can now discuss with my group members my ideas and plans of what to include.

Storyboards - Miss Miller

Storyboards
The purpose of a storyboard is so that me and my group can understand and plan out what specific shots we are going to include within our music video. Each page of a storyboard allows 4 boxes, with a box underneath allowing detailed analysis and planning for each point, e.g. mise-en-scene, cinematography, editing, sound, lighting and characters on screen within these few seconds of the music video. This allows planning ahead meaning more detail can be involved and also helps with the filming schedule as we can plan out what locations can be filmed at what times, and whether the characters involved can make them times and places or not. We as a group have drawn pictures on each section to the storyboards to help show what we are going to try and produce in our video. The pictures below show the story boards that we have included as a group.
Analysis
Within the process of creating a music video with myself and my group I carried out primary and secondary research to help with my understanding and knowledge of what to include in my music video and the reasons why. My primary research was my questionnaire which I completed for the start of my research before making any solid decisions about my music video. By this point of my questionnaire me and my group had a rough idea of what genre and song we would be using, and because if this it helped us lead our questionnaire and what questions to include. My questionnaire lead me to find results from my target audience about what age they were, what they enjoyed about the soul genre, what Adele song they enjoy the most and the reasons for it, and what editing and cinematography uses they feel work well within music videos and why. These are the most important questions I feel were answered as they gave me the most sufficient and useful answers. I found that my audience did enjoy editing features such as close-ups, so within my music video I planned out using my storyboards to include close-ups. The story boards allowed me to plan out individually what editing skills I am going to use and in what specific places to portray the my artist in different ways. My target audience also said that they enjoyed the song Hometown Glory, which helped me and my group to decide this is the song that we was going to use, as it contains a lot of hidden meaning for the audience to find out, also allowing the audience create a relationship with my artist Amy. I feel that overall my primary research from my questionnaires allowed me to receive sufficient and helpful feedback allowing me to be able to reach my target audience and due to this I was able to plan out easily on my storyboards as I knew what different skills I was including. My secondary research was my analysis of different music videos. I analysed many different music videos which allowed me to look at the different uses of mise-en-scene, editing, cinematography, sound and genre. All these posts allowed me to see what was important and worked well and for what reasons. I felt these posts really helped me to receive a greater understanding of all of these things, helping me and my group to come to a decision what different skills me and my group are using and helping us to plan out on our storyboards in greater detail. A post I feel that really helped me to understand was research into chosen music genre. I analysed two different music videos, both from the soul genre but two different artists who hold different conventions. The two artists I looked at was Amy Winehouse and Paloma Faith, these are both two well-known artists within the UK, and both very popular. I found different conventions included within both music videos that inspired me to include them within my storyboards. I feel that both my primary and secondary research has helped me with planning on my storyboards for detailed understanding between me and my group.

I took my inspirations from other music videos that I have analysed. I have analysed many music videos and secondary pieces that has helped with the production of my storyboards. I have looked at different theorists that link to different music videos and how they include different things which helps portray the artist in different ways. A theorist which I researched further into was Goodwin's theory. Goodwin's theory allowed me to analyse a music video looking at all 7 points of his theory and how its used throughout the whole video. This theorist has allowed me to see what points I can include within my own creation of a music video and how they have inspired me. I feel that Goodwin's theory has inspired me too use his theorist points of lyrics connecting to the visuals of the song, meaning the background or object on screen has a connection with the lyrics being played. We are going to use this point in the theory when Amy sings about London and how she is there at her time now, and this makes reference to the visuals when shots of London are shown, including the streets of London and attractions such as the London Eye. I feel that this will allow the audience to create a relationship with the artist as they can create a greater meaning of the song and what messages are being sent through. Moreover, the artist Amy Winehouse allowed me to analyse one of her videos in the representation of the artist. Although I was researching into the artist herself, I was also looking at different features such as editing. A black and white filter which is en editing technique and is a reoccurring theme in this music video, and has inspired me to use it in my own. Within our music video we are going to include a black and white filter over the memories to show the past. The black and white filter will reiterate Amy's emotion to her audience and comparing her emotion to how she feels now and in her past. The black and white filter counts as an editing skill that we have included in the storyboards. The pictures below show each storyboard in order. The black and white filter will also be used over some of the performance sections of the music video too to show a resembling difference between the narrative and performance helping the audience receive a greater understanding of the emotions being portrayed.

Me and my group planned out our storyboard by planning out our thoughts and feedback before hand. We all had our individual ideas so before writing them down on the storyboard, we planned them out separate on a sheet of paper and had a group discussion which allowed us to all put in our input in and choose which idea was best and if we could merge and include them. After discussing our idea's together as a group, we found out what ideas we should use and thought about them carefully about what messages they would portray towards the audience. We went through the each storyboard together thinking about what drawings we would include to represent the annotations we have included below each squared picture. Each storyboard included 4 squares which allowed us to allow our detailed planning below and a picture above to show what shot we would be including.
Within our group we all took different responsibilities to allow each of us to be occupied within our group sessions and meaning we all gained an understanding of our own music video, and this way none of the 4 of us was left out. Each responsibility meant shared ideas from all of us, and constant involvement. Within my group, Hannah and Kane drew the pictures to go with the analysis. The picture boxes allowed us to see what particular shots we are going to include and means we can understand easier and recognise what shots we have used. Kane and Hannah split the responsibility equally, doing a storyboard each at a time. Whereas myself and Amy wrote the analysis at the bottom of each storyboard. Each section allowed us to write what camera shot it would be in that shot, the location of the camera shot, the iconography that would be used in the scene, that actors that are included in the scene, the sound, editing and the overall narrative description. All of these different sections helped us to plan out each specific skill, and look at what would work best. Each box was filled in for each storyboard. Me and Amy shared out the responsibility equally for each storyboard, and much discussion was needed between the two of us as we didn't want to include the same thing in twice of miss out a box for our planning. Overall or teamwork together meant we completed our storyboards professionally and to a good standard.

Conclusion
Overall, from this analysis of my storyboards I feel that they have helped me and my group sufficiently with our planning. The planning of our storyboards was a success and meant we had a clear structure to what we are going to include and follow each step clearly as each member of our group has an clear understanding of why each frame has been chosen.
( other points to conclusion to be added once filming is complete)

Planning Individual Magazine Advert - Miss Georgiou

Planning Individual Magazine Advert

Introduction
Magazine adverts are important when creating a album or single for a artist as they help with promotion and the way the audience see the artist. Magazine adverts are effective as they allow a wider audience apart from the artists own to see their album and how it is conclusive and effective to there new releases. For my own magazine advert i drew a picture to show my idea of how i wanted it too look.  The picture on the left is my own creation of my individual magazine advert, i have tried to include as much detail as i could, but my analysis of it will show my thoughts and reasons for things i have included. It is important to create and plan your magazine advert before hand so i have clear picture of whist i want to include and think about before if it will catch my targeted audience or not. Also planning a background so that i can see what things i need to include when filming shots for my music video and how they can be edited in on my magazine advert. The magazine advert i have shown on the picture in the left is hand-drawn whereas in comparison to my real magazine advert it will be created on a computer with editing skills.
Analysis
The first element i have included within my magazine advert is the colours. I have included colour within my drawn first draft although within my real edited advert the three main colours will be black, white and red. The background and the artist will both be in black and white, although the artist over lapped so you can see a clear difference. In addition, the lips on the artist will be i red, the buses, telephone box and scenery e.g. London eye, will all be in colour in front of the black and white filter. The red buses and telephone box will stand out from the background swell as the scenery, meaning that the scene of London is emphasised to the audience about how this is reflected on the songs included and how much relevance this has to the album and the artist. The song Hometown glory which we are performing for our single is all about London, and this is then portrayed in the background images. The colour red being reoccurring also means that this shows love and passion which is conventional to the soul genre as it shows feelings and normally heartbreak and strong emotions about a past lover or family. The colours used within my magazine advert will involve a lot of meaning, and show emotions of how the artist is truly feeling and linking back to the connection of the lyrics, the reason why i have chosen London as it has a strong involvement within the song by adele Hometown Glory.
My magazine advert as an overall is conventional and includes many conventional features. the first feature i have used is the artist looking down or away from the camera, this is seen to be used within soul magazine adverts as it means the audience can't create a relationship easily with the artist, meaning the audience have to guess what they are feeling, creating more attention from the audience. The audience looking away from the camera means the audience cannot show as much emotion as if they was looking at the camera, directly at her target audience. Another conventional feature i am going to include within my magazine advert is my artist being in the filter of black and white as well as the background. The black and white filter being used for most of my magazine advert helps to express the emotions from the advert and how they relate to the songs included. The black and white convention is used frequently throughout the soul genre as it shows elegance, power and seen to be mysterious. This helps to link in the way that Adele is looking down or away from the artist showing her as mysterious. Conventions are important to include within a magazine advert as it attracts the audience, and allows them to understand the messages and meaning being sent out from the artist. The picture i have used on the left is an example image of Adele, and this is my inspiration of how i want my artist Amy to be looking as i feel it works well and is a good example.
The images i am going to use within my magazine advert is a picture of my artist and background images. The image of Amy is going to be the main image used on my magazine advert as it will allow to the audience to see what the main focus of the advert is and who it is promoting. Amy will be in black and white on the front cover with coloured images in the background allowing her to stand out. The images i am going to include in the background is scenery in London, these will include pictures of London buses and telephone boxes as they are both red, and the red will contrast with the black and white standing out. The images in the background will connect to the song Hometown Glory, as she sings about her hometown which includes features of London, which is why i have chosen to include these. Through my research i have chosen to include these images as i feel they help with the emotion being sent out throughout the song and have a clear link to lyrics. The image being promoted is the first thing that the audience look at so it needs to be bold and make a stand, which is why i am going to use a close-up as it means detail of Amy's face can be portrayed in a way that she is sad and producing her emotion and telling her audience a story through her emotion. My image will hopefully show her to be looking down at the camera, hiding her eyes from the audience, so they have to figure out the messages being sent out, meaning a relationship is being created between the audience and artist has a they create a deeper understanding of the artist and how they are feeling. My target audience will be able to understand the images i am going to use within my magazine advert.
The typography that i am going to include within my magazine advert is a bold text that will stand out to the audience in the colours red and black. there will be a use of text at the top of my magazine advert which will say "Amy presents her debut album". This is the first piece of text that will be used on the magazine advert, so this has to be catchy and make sense to what is actually being included and promoted. The start of each word will be in red, so for example the letter A in Amy will be in red and the rest in black. This will emphasise the start of each word, to show the importance of that line and how it needs to be noticed. The red also portrays the connotation of love and passion, and how this is included within amy's new album. The songs included will be based around the theme of love, and connecting to Amy's past, heartbreak and family, which is a conventional topic of the soul genre. The rest of the letters in each word will be in black, which shows that she is sad and depressed, connecting to the theme of love. The two different connotations of colours together will show my artist Amy has having confused emotions and being upset within her lifestyle. The other use of typography within the advert is at the bottom of the advert which says "AMY 18'. This will be in capital letters on the actual magazine advert which is why i have included it here. This will also start with the reoccurring theme of the first letter being in red and the rest of the letters in black although the 18, will all her in red as it shows how important them numbers are to the album. We connected this to adele's theme as she has previous albums of adele 21 and adele 25. I thought i would include a similar theme of Adele, as this is a good way to address my audience if numbers are included and not just letters. The number 18 also connects with the age of Amy, showing her fame at such a young age and how well her music has been produced. This will help connect to the target audience as it will be relatable due to their age being similar, meaning the promotion is high as they will be buying the album because of the typography that is going to be included.
The type of language i am going to include within my magazine advert is simple. I am not elaborating on any of my sentences i am keeping it short and easy to understand. Because i am using simple language this means that any of Amy's target audience will be able to relate to the language used, and all the words will be understandable. Mostly all album promotions are promoted through magazine adverts, and include a similar title to me, which is 'promotes debut album'. This means its easily recognised by Amy's target audience and can understand what it means and how this is the main promotion of the album. The word debut shows Amy's upcoming album and shows how new and fresh the album is, showing her Amy's importance and how important her new album to be seen in is.
Conclusion
Overall I feel from my research into planning my magazine advert, I have been able to elaborate on my plans of what I feel I should include within. Each difference section of this post has allowed me to break down my ideas and understand the importance of each. For example I found that my further research into typography helped me to see why the different font for different genres is important within magazine adverts as it attracts different audiences, so for my genre of soul I have chosen a plain, bold font that will stand out and show a clear image to the audience, with no hidden meanings apart from the colours shown. The planning of images also helped me to see what images I should include and how they will effect the way Amy is portrayed to her target audience. The images I have chosen to include I feel will show to the audience how my artist is really involved within the music within the album, and the real emotion she is going to be showing and sending out.
